| Croatia 2002
In September of 2000 Mary-Austin & Scott and Tracy & Rick visited Slovenia, on a pilgrimage to visit the works of Master Architect Joze Plecnik. Photos of that trip can be found at Tracy & Rick's Slovenia 2000 web site. The four of us returned to the former Yugoslavia in September 2002, this time to visit Croatia on the adamant recommendation of our friend Isa-Kae, who has been visiting Croatia and the former Yugoslavia since the early 1950s. Once again we started out in Vienna, Austria, primarily to visit the new Leopold Museum in the Museum Quarter to see the work of artist Egon Schiele, one of Mary-Austin's favorite artists. On two prior trips to Vienna in 1993 and 2000 many of Schieles works were on loan or boxed away in storage during museum renovations. From Vienna we headed south to the Dalmatian coast. With three architects, one artist and a couple of digital cameras it is easy to take a lot of photos. How many photos? Well Mary + Scott = 2400, Tracy + Rick = 1800! What we've tried to do here is cull the images down to the most scenic and descriptive photos, what we've left out is hundreds of detail shots of doors, locks, wrought iron, typography, valve covers, planter, window frames...click here for a small sample. I've tried to keep the captions to a minimum, but I have included many links to external web sites for additional images, commentary or histories.
